Traveling to San Francisco
Weather
Average temperatures for this weekend are 52-67 degrees. Weather in San Francisco is variable. It could be cold and raining, foggy, sunny and warm, or all three on the same afternoon.
Visitors to San Francisco are often surprised by how cold it can be, especially at night near the ocean. Please dress warmly to make sure you will be comfortable during the ceremony as well as on your way home after the reception.
Airports
San Francisco International (SFO)
Oakland International (OAK)
Both of these airports are connected to San Francisco by the BART train line. SFO is close by car, while Oakland is across the Bay Bridge.
Hotels
Hotel Kabuki
Modern hotel in the heart of Japantown, approximately the center of the city. Close to shops and restaurants on Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights. This is where Emma and Steve will be staying the weekend of the wedding.
The Laurel Inn
A boutique hotel within walking distance of the historic Presidio. Close to Haight/Ashbury, Alamo Square/Painted Ladies, and San Francisco other attractions.
Fifteen minute drive to the wedding venues. This hotel is located almost equidistant between the ocean and downtown.
Use the promotion code SUTROPARTY when booking to get our 15% discounted wedding rate.
Ocean Park Motel
Lovely, art-deco, updated motel from the 1930s. Family friendly. Some rooms have a kitchen.
Two blocks from Ocean Beach and two blocks from the San Francisco Zoo. About ten minutes drive or twenty minutes transit from the wedding venue.
Seal Rock Inn
Historic hotel, a little shabby. Featured in Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail.
Located across the street from the ceremony site and one block from the reception venue. Walking distance to Ocean Beach, Sutro Baths, Golden Gate Park, and the Legion of Honor Museum.
Public transit: BART and SFMuni
It is relatively easy to travel via bus, light rail, historic trolley/streetcar, and train in San Francisco.
Consider purchasing a Clipper Card at any Walgreens, which lets you pre-load cash onto a debit-like card that can be used on any transit in the Bay Area. You can also pay with cash ($2.75 for a bus ride).
Lyft
If you have a smartphone, we highly recommend downloading the Lyft app. It is a popular on-demand cab service that can help you get to different parts of the city on short notice.
Download the app at https://www.lyft.com/ and use the code EMMA139 for a $5 credit.
Sightseeing
There is so much to see and do in San Francisco and the Bay Area! Emma has been building her San Francisco tourist map for many years. You can find sights, restaurants, bars, coffee, and suggested walks here.
A few of our favorite things outside of San Francisco:
- Stinson Beach
- Muir Woods (must make reservations in advance)
- Hiking at Mt. Tamalpais
- Alcatraz (must make reservations in advance)
